Thirteen Places I Hope to Visit in the Next 18 Months

Holy Cow! Between two trips to Europe and a trip to New England, I’m planning on seeing the following places in the next 18 months:

  1. Rome, Italy
  2. Florence, Italy
  3. Lucerne, Switzerland
  4. Paris, France (twice!)
  5. London, England (twice!)
  6. Stonehenge, England (twice!)
  7. Bath, England
  8. Boston, Massachusetts
  9. Salisbury, England
  10. Portsmouth, England
  11. Mont St. Michel, France
  12. Provence, France
  13. Monaco

Two years ago, a passport wasn’t something I thought I would need until my kids were out of college. I am so thankful to Mollie for letting me participate in her travels with ACIS!
P.S. This will be my last Thursday Thirteen because the TT site’s owner is retiring it. But look back often for more information on what I’m doing!

Get the Thursday Thirteen code here!The purpose of the meme is to get to know everyone who participates a little bit better every Thursday. Visiting fellow Thirteeners is encouraged! If you participate, leave the link to your Thirteen in others comments. It’s easy, and fun! Be sure to update your Thirteen with links that are left for you, as well! I will link to everyone who participates and leaves a link to their 13 things. Trackbacks, pings, comment links accepted!

I liked John Mayer…until I heard this song

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

…and now I really like him. His song “Daughters” is so eloquent in how it describes how fathers can affect the lives of their daughters.

If you’ve heard the song but not really paid attention to the lyrics, click here.

And I on the verge of hitting the bigtime?

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

One of my 5th period students said he heard people talking about my blog in McDonald’s. And they were actually interested in what was on it!

Of course, I deflated a little bit when he said they were talking about the post I wrote about Britney Spears.

I guess maybe I should give all those fami-ous people a break. It seems that they’ve finally found a purpose!

Look out, Wil Wheaton and Dooce!

Where has this t-shirt been my whole life?

This is so spot on–The Culture of ‘Faminess’

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

This is one of the best stories I’ve heard in a LONG time. With all of the attention given lately to Anna Nicole Smith and Britney Spears, faminess is all about having the trappings of fame without any of the substance that fame used to connotate.

The Culture of Faminess‘ on NPR’s Talk of the Nation.

I do have a question:  when exactly will Britney Spears’ 15 minutes be over?

$1 Presidential Coins

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

The US Mint has started producing $1 coins again. With the same color, size, and EM signature as the Sacagawea and Susan B. Anthony dollars, they’ll work at all the same places those coins will.

When I traveled in Canada, I really enjoyed using their $1 (the Looney) and the $2 (the Toony) coins. They seemed so much more usable than paper money.

The Loonie ($1 Canadian coin) The Looney
The Canadian Toonie ($2 coin) The Toonie (Twonie)

Cool site of the day…www.ottobib.com

Monday, February 19th, 2007

If you’re working on a research paper and not exactly sure how to create a bibliography entry, use www.ottobib.com.

All you have to do is enter the book ISBN number and select the citation style (MLA, APA, or Chicago).

For example:

013142954X

Gives the following citations:

MLA:
Grauer, Robert and Maryann Barber. Exploring Office Xp Enhanced Edition, Vol. 2. Englewood Cliffs: Prentice Hall, 2003.

APA:
Grauer, R., & Barber, M. (2003). Exploring Office Xp Enhanced Edition, Vol. 2. Englewood Cliffs: Prentice Hall.

Chicago/Turabian:
Grauer, Robert, and Maryann Barber. Exploring Office Xp Enhanced Edition, Vol. 2. Englewood Cliffs: Prentice Hall, 2003.

BibTeX:
@Book{grauer2003,
author = ‘Grauer, Robert’,
title = ‘Exploring Office Xp Enhanced Edition, Vol. 2′,
publisher = ‘Prentice Hall,
year = ‘2003′,
address = ‘Englewood Cliffs’,
isbn = ‘013142954x’
}

(By the way, I have NO IDEA what BibTeX format is used for…but OttoBib will generate it for you!)
