Laughter is the best medicine

Monday, June 19th, 2006

I was holding Duncan tonight while Heather and Kathryn played outside. We were talking and he latched onto my finger. I jiggled it to get him to let go and it must have tickled him because he really laughed. It was the first time that I had heard him laugh like that…and as much as it shames me to say this, I kind-of enjoyed not having to share the moment with anyone. Anyway, Duncan and I laughed for a couple of minutes (and incredibly long time for a 2-month-old) and it did wonders for my attitude. Not that it was horrible but at the end of the day my enthusiasm level leaves something to be desired! So I guess it’s true what they say, laughter really is the best medicine. :-)

Quiet Time vs. the Really Quiet Time of Sleep

Monday, June 19th, 2006

It is after midnight and I am at the keyboard typing on this blog. Not particularly because I have anything relevant or interesting to say, but because the house is so quiet and I LIKE IT. Of course, when I’m struggling to stay composed when my kids are riding my last nerve tomorrow, I may regret my night-owl tendencies.

Today was Father’s Day and I must say it’s the first one we’ve celebrated since I had kids and I didn’t stop to think “I cannot believe that I’m being honored on this day…I barely know what I’m doing!” Not that I know what I’m doing–far from it! But for the first time in three years, being a dad doesn’t feel unnatural. I guess it just took me a while to get used to it!

Play ball!

OK, it might be a little premature, but don’t you think Duncan could make Varsity? ;-)
