Exercises in Futility

Monday, January 16th, 2006

Today was a real “fun” day at work. My campus is supposed to be implementing an integrated gradebook/attendance/documentation program called Pinnacle. Like many things, wonderful in theory, not so much in reality.

We had three trainers on our campus (me and two other business education teachers). We had spent many hours in preparation (not to mention the two to three days of outside training). When training began this afternoon, no one could even log in to the program. And when we did have people successfully log in, the server on which this program ran quickly crashed. All afternoon it went up and down like a yo-yo.

I’m just thankful I was playing for the “home crowd” and not providing training for people from different campuses. Otherwise it would have been disasterous and we would not have been able to laugh at our pitiful attempts to make the best of a bad situation.

Here’s hoping they’re able to get it up and running within the next couple of days.
