Thanks to “technical difficulties” (i.e., the long, slow death of a hard drive resulting in the purchase of a new computer) it’s been a while since I blogged anything. So here goes…
Heather, Kathryn and I attended the West Texas A&M - Eastern New Mexico football game on Saturday. All I can say is WOW! I have lived in Canyon for 15 years, with six of those years as a West Texas A&M student and I have never seen Kimbrough Stadium so packed, packed, packed, PACKED! I think the official count was just under 23,000 football fans. The home and visitor sides were both packed, there were people sitting on the hills behind the goalposts. WT won 52-51 in overtime. I’m really not even into football that much and I’ve had a great time seeing the success of the WT football team this year. Of course, the fact that the father of our good friend Courtney Burgoon is the head football coach doesn’t hurt!
Yesterday, our friend Casey taught Sunday school class. We are currently reading and studying The Purpose-Driven Life by Rick Warren. I was really impressed with Casey’s teaching ability, which he’s kept under wraps since we’ve known each other. He did a really good job.
Today was the first day of Canyon ISD’s two-day fall break. Kathryn and I had a pretty good day hanging out. We went up to the school so I could do a little work, watched some videos, took a long nap (3 hours!), and cooked dinner.
We watched videos that we took during Kathryn’s first year tonight. It is weird to see how much she’s changed but also to see how much of the person she is now was present right after she was born. Our dog Jack was also in a lot of the video that we looked at tonight which just made me miss him even more. Just when I think I’m getting to the point where I don’t miss him quite so much, something like that will remind me. I still miss the little guy a lot. The connection between man and dog is unique, I think. I’ve actually thought about this a lot. I think one of the reasons that men love dogs so much is because they can be emotionally intimate with a dog without the dog having a lot of expectations come toward him. How many relationships are that way?
Well, it’s now past 11 p.m. and I was scheduled to turn into a pumpkin about 1 1/2 hours ago. Here’s hoping the second day of Fall Break is as good as the first!
