We shall see…
Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004We shall see how this blogging thing works and if anyone has any interest in what I have to say. Odds are I’ll read much more than anyone else.
Today is the last school day before the Thanksgiving holiday. I think everyone around here really needs a break. Many of the students are non-responsive (at best) and most of the teachers feel like they are banging their head against a wall of high school angst.
My kids are working on “filler” exercises–the type of stuff I usually have on hand for a substitute. I really hate to start new material (especially what we’re in the middle of–Microsoft Access!), go to a break, have the student forget it all, and then have to reteach it when we come back. The filler exercises generally don’t take a long time and this leaves them with some down time–my version of a Thanksgiving gift. Gobble! Gobble!
My daughter actually slept until we were ready for her to get up this morning! Hallelujah!! Her sleep routine has been somewhat disrupted ever since daylight savings time ended and she was having so much trouble with diarrhea. But maybe we’ve turned the corner on that and we’re headed to smoother waters. Now, if we can only get her to stay in her “big bed”! Ever since she figured out how to get out of it, keeping her down for the night is near impossible without resorting to having her sleep in the Pack-&-Play.
The weather has been really atypical for this part of the country and this time of year. It reminds me of Seattle–overcast skies, fog, and a LOT of moisture. I think the harvest is being hampered by the fact that the rain that made the crops grow so well hasn’t dried up and allow the harvesters to do their job.
We are getting ready to have everyone here on Thanksgiving. Actually, our Thanksgiving will be on Saturday and not even at our house. We’ve reserved the Fellowship Hall at our church so we are not piled up on top of each other at our house. I think it will work out well. We are actually spending Thanksgiving Day with my wife’s paternal grandparents. I think she spent a lot of holidays with them as a child and she is excited that our other family commitments have allowed us to spend this holiday with them. It is so ironic that we are closer to her grandparents rather than her actual father. But that’s a post for another time…
I heard on NPR this morning that Seasons 1-3 of Seinfeld are coming out on DVD today. I really miss that show. I think it gave people permission to like that obnoxious, self-absorbed person that lives in all of us without actually having to be that person.
